La Folie
La Folie, a holiday cottage in the northern Dordogne, France, is available for rent. The house has been renovated over 4 years from a near derelict state to a comfortable standard. The cottage had been uninhabited for several years, and then only the two ground floor rooms were in use, with the upper floor being accessible only from the barn and used for storage of walnuts and hay. All the original features have been kept where possible, and local chestnut and oak used in the renovations.
In Brief
The cottage comprises a good size kitchen dining room with large antique farmhouse table and wood-burning open fire. The downstairs living room has access through French windows to a patio area, the rest of the garden and the parking area. Upstairs is a snug with an antique French day bed, TV/Video and books (NB. there is no TV reception - videos only!). A raised landing leads to the bathroom and on to the bedrooms. The substantial main tie beam has been left in place unlike some conversions - see pictures.
Bedroom 1 has an antique French 3/4 double bed, Velux window and clothes hanging and storage area. Bedroom 2 has a full double bed and storage and a repatriated antique French washstand.
Summary
2 bedrooms, sleeping up to 3 or 4 adults (2 can just fit in the 3/4 bed, or utilising the day-bed oror extra large feather settees - see details ), 2 seating areas. Kitchen/dining room, open fire in kitchen, and wood-burning stove in sitting room.
SORRY - no pets, no smoking and not suitable for very small children - please call/email for details on suitability and possible exceptions.
We are close to the Limousin/Dordogne border just off the N21. Limoges airport (Bellegarde) is approx 45 minutes drive away.
